Thomas Edison is perhaps the best storied example of this. When asked why he continued to invent the light bulb after 1000 failures, his response was that simply placed him one step closer to success! That is self belief and the application of perseverance.
It was not a day, week, month or year, he stayed with it till he succeeded, virtually every successful person does. At no point did he ever "try", he simply refused to believe it could not be done! Success is like that!
